GE Evolution Locomotives
by Sean Graham-White

A new generation of locomotives for a changing world: greener, cleaner, and just as powerful. This book introduces readers to General Electric's Evolution Series, the company’s latest achievement in a long and distinguished history of locomotive design. At the heart of the Evolution's success is the GEVO 12-cylinder engine, which produces the same horsepower as the old 16-cylinder FDL while using less fuel and reducing emissions. Today’s most up-to-date railfans will want to read about the development, testing, production, and use of the locomotive that, in its first year of production, has already been ordered by every Class 1 railroad in North America. Photographs and illustrations document the features and components of the Evolutions operating across the country, and interviews with GE and railroad personnel fill in the details of current operations and plans for what is certain to be the future of American rail.

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO BRING ON BOARD A NEW PRODUCER

Trains across the Midwest
by C.Vision Productions

The Midwest is full of railroad action with Short Lines, Regionals and the big Class One's!
In this volume we first travel to southeastern Nebraska. Here we capture Union Pacific trains in and around the community of Davenport. Trains led with C44AC-CTE's, SD90-43AC's and SD-60M's are seen traveling through this scenic section of the U.R's Marysville Subdivision.
Then it's off to western Minnesota. On the border of Fargo, North Dakota is the city of Moorhead. It is here that the BNSF's KO and Prosper Subdivisions join at a point called Moorhead Junction. This busy spot hosts numerous BNSF trains on a daily basis. Along with main line freights and coal trains, many yard jobs and transfers use this junction to get to and from the large yard in the adjacent town of Dilworth, MN. From rebuilt GP-30's to the new SD-70ACe's, you will be treated to some great BNSF trains at this location!
Finally, we head a little further north to catch the action on a newly formed shoreline. The Dakota Northern operates over ex-BNSF tracks from Grafton to Walhalla, North Dakota. We capture this line only months after its birth to watch as rebuilt GP- 10's take care of moving grain, potatoes, coal and ethanol. The railroad even treated us to adding the Minnesota Northern's caboose to the train!
Awesome mainline action, diverse Short Lines and Regionals make the Midwest one of the best places to watch trains. C.Vision takes you there in "Trains Across the Midwest"

NEW MODELLING DVDS FROM ALLEN KELLER
GREAT MODEL RAILROADS ™ VOL. 57
by Allen Keller Productions

Jim Hertzog’s Reading operates deep in the coal fields of Pennsylvania in the mid 1950s. This HO railroad runs from Shamokin to Tamaqua, Pennsylvania and interchanges with the Pennsy and the Lehigh & New England. It serves 12 coal mines and processing plants and is a way for Jim to remember watching the Reading as a child. Because of the mountains the grades are steep and require helpers. In fact the railroad revolves around these helpers. Historic preservation is one way that Jim thinks of his Reading Lines. It’s also a setting for 18 to 20 friends who run 30 trains during each monthly operating session. The layout has two staging yards and three operating yards, each with its own purpose. The Reading was carefully designed to get the maximum use out of a 30 x 40 foot basement. That means narrow aisles and shallow scenes yet the overall plan gives operators the feel of actually traveling with their trains. Jim has captured the gritty look of Appalachian coal mining. Jim says this railroad has broadened his outlook on the hobby as he learned to do things he didn’t know he could do. He will show you how to understand a colliery, make concrete roads, weather
cars and use fascia lettering. The Reading is a Great Model Railroad because Jim has found a way to recreate the grit, romance and hard work of coal mine railroading in his basement.

AMERICAN RRS OF THE 1940s & '50s 5 Shows on 1 Disc!

Among the railroads represented are Santa Fe, NYC, Pennsy, GN, Milwaukee, Rio Grande, New Haven, Monon, and Southern. In color. Lifeline of the Nation. Steam dominates this WWII era film about how railroads supported the war effort. The few diesels shown are very early models. You’ll see Hiawathas and Box Cabs on the Milwaukee Road, steam and a GG-1 electric on the Pennsy, a rare streamlined Hudson on NYC’s Empire State Express, and more. In black & white. 225,000 Mile Proving Ground. This film takes its title from the 225,000 miles of track in service in 1953 when diesel power was replacing steam. The film shows many F-units and even shots of a UP gas turbine and Santa Fe billboard refrigerator cars. The dramatic close features a Rock Island F-unit passing right over the camera. In color. Railroads and National Defense. Made during the Korean War period, this film shows how the railroads helped rearm the nation while still meeting America’s transportation needs. Pullmans and coaches provide troop transport while other trains haul tanks and trucks for shipment overseas. Featured railroads include the Katy, Texas & Pacific, IC, Seaboard, and UP. In color. Mainline USA. This 1950s salute shows railroads meeting the challenge of economic growth by building hump yards, introducing welded rail and CTC, and designing safer trains and features great run-bys on the NYC, GN, D&RGW, Western Maryland, Pennsy, SF, UP, Rock Island, L&N, SP, B&O, and many others!

To All,

We always feel embarrassed, at this time of the year, because Calendars in September just seems too early. But if you are anything like me your diary is beginning to get dates for 2008. Holidays, family weddings, even doctors and dentists appointments are beginning to be made for next year so I suppose it isn’t too soon to order your wall calendar. Don’t forget that calendars make ideal ‘ thoughtful little pressies ‘ and we will run out before Christmas!
It seems hard to be talking about Christmas when summer hasn’t yet materialised but the autumn berries and colours are already visible. This weekend I am on a Battle of Britain class loco "spitfire" to Ramsgate for the annual Faversham Hop festival. The train, run by our local brewery, commemorates the east enders who used to come down to Kent to pick the hops. Train loads of women and children used to come and stay in huts and caravans for the hop harvest. It was hard work but the community spirit around the evening camp fires made the fortnight in Kent a happy working holiday for all. It is good that Shepherd & Neame hires the steam train to make the day special and the kids still love to come and watch the steam & smell the smoke and perhaps wear hop garlands. Just to keep in the spirit of the day I might participate in a half pint of “Spitfire” to keep my wheels in motion!
Happy rail fanning

Ann
