Here is a Fantastic Bargain!
A Great Fathers Day Special

Blue Mountains
Volumes 1-3 Combo

For the Union Pacific Railroad in the early 1990s, railroading in the Blues—the 200-mile segment of UP’s Oregon Division Mainline—meant staggering grades, extreme weather, and 3 daunting summits. Video Rails captured the power of the Union Pacific as it faced its toughest run and released the story of this northwest passage in three separate videos. Now, combined here for you on one action-packed DVD, are those three exciting shows! Featured are:
Volume 1: La Grande to Huntington.
Dramatic footage covers all the action from La Grande to Huntington. Climbing out of the Grande Ronde Valley and heading past Oxman Curve and through Burnt River Canyon, Dash 8-40CWs, SD40-2s, C36-7s, and SD60s take on the 2.2 percent grades of UP’s roughest helper district. Trailer trains, container trains, doublestacks, grain, soda ash, auto racks, and Amtrak are seen on this exciting journey.
Volume 2: La Grande to Hinkle.
Scale the Blue Mountains from La Grande northwest through Hilgard and Motanic to the summit at Kamela. Ride the cab of a GE Dash 8 and get an engineer’s view from a helper set on the rear of a UP freight. SD40-2s, C36-7s, 8-40Cs, and an SD60 are seen at Meacham Creek Canyon, the Umatilla River, and beyond.
Volume 3: Winter in the Blues.
Travel the 56-mile “snow zone” of the Blue Mountains from North Powder to Meacham in the dead of winter. Climb the steep grades to the summits of Telocaset and Kamela, and then barrel across the Grande Valley through La Grande. A steady stream of UP trains have to battle against heavy snows in this formidable obstacle course and you’ll be trackside to appreciate the challenges they face!

New Book From MBI

VIA Rail
Author: Christopher C.N. Greenlaw

Go VIA Rail and see Canada: Here is Canada's national railway, covering 14,000 kilometers of track from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Great Lakes to Hudson Bay. This illustrated history tells the story of how, starting in the early 1970s, VIA Rail became a separate Crown corporation, once and for all relieving the old Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways of their beleaguered passenger operations. It is a story rich in history--and marked with failures and misfortunes right up to our day, when a need for convenient, fuel-efficient mass transportation holds out hope for a renaissance. Archival and modern photography, route maps, and print ads help detail the history of VIA Rail's motive power and passenger cars from the likes of General Motors, Bombardier, Montreal Locomotive Works, and Budd Company, as well such passenger trains as The Canadian, The Atlantic, The Ocean, and The Super Continental. Chris Greenlaw also explains all of the political machinations that have inevitably shaped the railroad, and delves into its connection with Amtrak via The Maple Leaf. Format: Hardbound Pages: 160 Length: 8.25w x 10.63h

Regional Railroads of the Midwest
Author: Steve Glischinski

They may not be the biggest or the best known, but regional carriers are the heart of the American rail system--and of the Midwest, whose people and places, industry and goods, they connect in one vast network. These regional railroads of the heartland, with their special operations and oftentimes unique equipment, are celebrated here in all their local color, historic power, and splendid detail. Highly respected rail writer and photographer Steve Glischinksi draws on his own knowledge and archive, as well as on the photography of several colleagues, to offer an authoritative, lavishly illustrated account of the histories, motive power, and operations of twelve of the Midwests most vital current carriers, including a system map of every road covered. Featured railroads include the Chicago Central & Pacific; Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern; Escanaba & Lake Superior; Iowa Interstate Railroad; Iowa, Chicago & Eastern; Indiana Rail Road; Kyle Railroad; Red River Valley & Western; Twin Cities & Western; Toledo, Peoria & Western; Wisconsin Central; and Wisconsin & Southern. Format: Hardbound Pages: 160 Length: 8.25w x 10.63h

GREAT STEAM TRAINS COMBO
by Greg Scholl Video Productions

A combination of two one-hour programs: Great Steam Trains Volume 1 and Volume 2, we see four locomotive segments in each program, and a wealth of steam variety.
Start with a visit to New England and 0-6-0 # 7470 at the Conway Scenic Railroad during fall colors. This railroad features a historic depot, roundhouse, and pleasant countryside. Next we head to Frankfort, Indiana and see two roundtrips with Nickel Plate Road 2-8-2 # 587 from Frankfort to Muncie, Indiana. We then visit the cab of Norfolk and Western 2-6-6-4 # 1218 and get a tour of the interior from the engineer and fireman who explain the controls in the cab between excursion runs. Our last segment in Volume One is Norfolk and Western 4-8-4 # 611 on a trip from Cincinnati to Portsmouth in 1990. The engine stalls on Peebles hill and has to have the rails sanded by hand to inch its way to the summit, an incredibly rare sight on mainline rails.
Volume Two takes us to New Brunswick, Canada and the Salem & Hillsborough Railroad. First wee see ex CN 4-6-0 # 1009 on several trips, both passenger and special freight trains arranged for our cameras. Then we enjoy rare scenes of ancient 4-4-0 # 29 in action on passenger trains. This video, shot in 1989, was the very last steam action for 29 as it later burned in a 1995 shop fire and is now on display in front of the CPR headquarters in Calgary. The next segment is a baseball special from St. Albans, WV to Cincinnati, Ohio with Nickel Plate 2-8-4 # 765 with some nice mainline running and a neat arrival view from atop Cincinnati Union Terminal. The last segment is a winter Santa Claus train with Kentucky Central 2-6-2 # 11 from Paris to Maysville, Kentucky in 1990. Nice sunshine and a Christmas wreath adorn the front of #11 while Santa waves to all from the rear platform of this festive steam special.
This is great steam action that can never be repeated as most of these do not run today. Menu feature allows segments to be selected. Live steam audio with minimal narration.

TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD BY STEAM
THE DARJEELING HIMALAYAN RAILWAY

by Highball Productions

The Darjeeling - Himalayan is totally charming, and once out of the frenetic lower portion, so are the people, especially the children. We start our journey at Siliguri, not quite the start of the railway, but the site of the engine shed, and an Indian Rail station, so there are 3 gauges, broad gauge, meter gauge and the two foot Darjeeling. During the journey, the railway crosses Hill Cart Road 177 times, and rises 6874 feet to the summit at Ghum. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world at over 28,000 feet was visible from near Darjeeling, it’s mostly not! You’ll take a ride on the train, and see some of the scenery and the people as well as seeing the trains in action. The DHR is now a UNESCO world heritage site, and a truly outstanding, delightful little railway. BONUS FEATURE-The sugar mill at Riga in Bihar province, it’s 0-8-0T, an odd critter, ox carts and kids!

Great Model Railroads Volume 56
by Allen Keller Productions

Cliff Powers' Mississippi, Alabama & Gulf covers a rarely modeled part of the country, the South. His gorgeous HO layout runs from Meridian, Miss. to New Orleans in 1955. This is his 8th layout and contains all the techniques and best practices that he learned with his previous layouts. Freelancing is showcased here with small towns, gnarled oaks and piney woods that capture the essence of the Southland. The railroad is a tribute to small town life with all of its mini-scenes.
The MA&G is two decks now, but when finished it will boast 3 decks. All of this in a 14 x 32 foot portable building in his backyard. Cliff uses a unique double track helix that he designed himself to reach the different levels on this railroad.
In addition to trains from the MA&G, Cliff runs equipment from the Southern and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio. His artistic talent with paint and chalks has made not only his scenes but his equipment completely believable. Cliff is a master builder with craftsman kits and kitbashing.
He says that model railroading is the most artistic of hobbies because it combines all aspects of creativity into one big project. He particularly enjoys the aesthetic and the problem solving challenges of the hobby. We all can learn from his examples.
Cliff will show you how to create plowed fields, add barbed wire to fence posts, customize your buildings and make realistic looking rusty roofs.
The MA&G is a Great Model Railroad because Cliff has convincingly recreated the South with his careful use of color, texture and first hand knowledge.

Santa Fe to Phoenix
Railroads of Arizona, Volume 5
by David F. Myrick

It is a history of efforts to construct a north-south railroad connecting Phoenix with the Santa Fe main line in northern Arizona, as well as the operations of that and connected lines, such as the route to California with a Colorado River bridge at Parker. The various mining roads tributary to the "Peavine," as the Santa Fe line was known, are also here, along with the rich mining history and associated railroads of the area around Prescott, the capital of Arizona Territory. To All,

Lainy and Sarah went off to the Gresley Model Railway show at the end of April. They did their best to convince customers to look outside the box and tried to showcase the American scene. Although this proved quite difficult, they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves and managed well between them. (I have to admit I had some reservations of them doing the exhibition on their own as there is a lot of heavy lifting of books etc. What I hadn’t counted for is the female charm and I know they both would like to thank everyone who offered them help.
Now summer is here we have included a range of items including t-shirts. Also there is plenty of reading material ready for your holiday break. For all us Fathers or Grandfathers you would have seen a great priced DVD that you may wish to have as a gift for Fathers Day or you may just want to take advantage of this great special offer!
