It has been a while since WB Video Productions has released any new titles but here we have their two latest productions showing fabulous large steam action and also Tehachapi in 1988 when Tehachapi was truly a great railfanning spot.

Classic Steam Excursions
by WB Video Productions

The world's largest operating steam locomotive, Union Pacific 3985, a 4-6-6-4 Challenger, is featured on two passenger specials. The trips between Denver, Colorado and Laramie, Wyoming were sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club in the 80's. You are on board, trackside and in the cab of Challenger 3985. Then Union Pacific 8444, a 4-8-4, puts on a spectacular show hauling a freight east of Cheyenne.
Narrow gauge action features an excursion on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club. Authentically lettered D&RGW freight cars and a caboose were added to the special train. An excursion on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad with carefully planned photo run-bys was also sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club.
In the mountains west of Denver, the Georgetown Loop Railroad operates a passenger special over the magnificent High Bridge connecting Georgetown with Silver Plume. At the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden a special steam-up features D&RGW 2-8-0 #346 running over Museum trackage

Steam Over Donner
by BA Productions

See and hear two famous locomotives climbing over the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. Experience their massive pulling power like nothing you've ever seen. On May 21, 1999, many hundreds of rail fans pulled their cars to the roadside and along the line, people stopped what they were doing, and stared at the spectacle as, for a moment, the two soot- breathing locomotives pulling their train, stopped the world and transported us back in time for a day. People watched in amazement as the Union Pacific Railroad's Challenger # 3985 and Northern # 844 locomotives journeyed all the way from Cheyenne Wyoming steaming their way over Donner Pass in California.
The purpose of their journey included a rededication of the rebuilt Roseville Rail Yard, recently refurbished with millions of dollars by UP. The locomotives also steamed across country to participate in the Rail Fair 99 at the Sacramento State Railroad Museum. Traveling over the Sierra Nevada mountain range, these locomotive steamed through many of California's famous railroad towns along the main line of the former Southern Pacific/Central Pacific main line over Donner pass. The engines rolled through towns and places like Truckee, Norden, Soda Springs, Cisco, Emigrant Gap, Gold Run, Colfax, Auburn, Rocklin, all the way to Roseville! The Donner Rails camera crews were strategically positioned at over 40 locations along this historic route between Sparks Nevada and Roseville California to catch all the adrenaline-pumping excitement.
The journey for the locomotive crews and engineers was not without risk and unexpected events. Hear their stories in rare interviews, the only interviews given and recorded exclusively by Donner Rails. Get the real story about what happened in Tunnel 41 as told by the engineers.
You can hear it, see it, feel it all in this video "Steam Over Donner" from BA Productions right in your own living room! It's so real and in your face, you can almost smell the steam and oil, you can feel the heat of the firebox!

Roseville to Truckee
by BA Productions

"Roseville to Truckee" is a documentary/entertainment video that gives viewers the best seat in the house as they ride with the crew in the cab of an expedited freight train over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Feel the excitement of riding in the engineers seat as we depart Roseville and head East to Truckee.
This hour-long ride brings home all the in-your face railroading action as viewers take this incredible journey along the nostalgic main line between Roseville and Truckee. Experience the challenges engineers face each day while climbing the steep grades up to Donner. Learn some of the amazing history as our story tells how Chinese laborers carved the path for the rail bed along solid granite ledges and how track was laid by rail gangs through snow and ice over the Sierras.
Feel goose bumps as you ride along those lofty granite ledges where sweeping panoramic vistas are set to the emotions of soft mesmerizing music. See dark solid granite interiors inside historic tunnels where builders chipped and blasted their way clear through whole mountain sides. Feel the cool shadows inside the snow sheds where rays of light filter through the sturdy wooden beams and icicles hang from the ceilings.
See all the historic towns built along this famous route as we pass through Auburn, Colfax, Cape Horn, Alta, Blue Canyon, Cisco, and finally, Donner Pass. Then, arriving in Truckee where our camera crew ends their journey, the train crew continues on with a blast of the horn and a wave goodbye.
Roseville to Truckee was produced by a local producer with the permission of Union Pacific Railroad for the purpose of documenting what it is like traveling over the Sierras in a freight train. See for yourself the creative video editing and dialog with pictures.

Cliffs Erie Cab Ride
by CVision Production

In 2001, LTV Mining's plant site and dock shut down operations in the arrowhead of Minnesota.
In the summer of 2008, Cliffs Erie revived the line for one last time. They brought back the famous set of F-9 locomotives to move taconite fines from the former LTV dock at Taconite Harbor to the Hoyt Lakes mine site for transloading onto trains for the Severstal Steel plant in Baltimore, Maryland. Only a handful of these trains were operated and C. Vision was granted special access to ride in the cab between Taconite Harbor and Tunnel Siding! Not only will you get a chance to view the scenic beauty of northern Minnesota from these 1956 built locomotives, but we also captured several trackside views from Taconite Harbor to Hoyt Lakes, including shots of the very last train that ran on October 28, 2008.
The sound of this A-B-B-B-A set of F-9's grinding up the grade out of the Lake Superior dock will amaze any rail enthusiast! You even get to view the train going through the long tunnel from the cab!
You won't want to miss this exciting show, as you won't find a set of 5 F-9's in freight service in the United States ever again! If you love F-Units, this video is a must for your collection!

GREAT MODEL RAILROADS ™ VOL. 61
by Allen Keller Productions

Harold Werthwein's Erie Railroad is one of the largest HO layouts in the country at 85x30 feet. Now he has added a new coal route above the original layout that we documented in Great Model Railroads, Vol. 18. It's the Wyoming Division with three coal branches. This show follows that line from Port Jervis, New York to Lackawaxen, where it interchanges with the Erie's Delaware Divsion. Even though the layout is huge, Harold felt that he needed to add more switching work for his 14 to 18 operators. This group meets monthly and operates about 25 trains on an 8 hour schedule using a
fast clock. He follows prototype practices as much as possible using official railroad documents.
A layout this large requires quite a bit of maintenance. Every week Harold and friends work on the railroad to make adjustments and repair the defects that can prevent successful train operations.
It's hard to believe that this is Harold's first layout. Prior to this project he had been an armchair modeler, but after his retirement 28 years ago he began modeling in a big way. Now at 87 Harold shows few signs of slowing down. In fact the hobby helps him keep his body and mind active, and is a main source of social activity.
Harold will show you his coal mines, how to use prototype paperwork, block trains for operation and operate less than carload freights.
The Wyoming Division is a Great Model Railroad because Harold has captured the feel of the prototype by using official railroad paperwork and by getting help from former railway executives
